STRATEGY 4 – Change Access & Barriers

Improving systems and processes to increase the ease, ability and opportunity to make changes in local conditions (e.g., assuring safety, special needs, cultural and language sensitivity; provision of new technologies, etc.).

EXAMPLES:

  • Place limits on hours of on-site alcohol service

Coalitions can also consider activities such as:

  • Offer regular training for licensed establishments in convenient locations and times, and in languages appropriate to the population of servers and bartenders (e.g., Spanish, Mandarin)
  • Provide training/technical assistance for owners/ managers of licensed establishments to help develop business policies that discourage over-service and provide protocols for employees to follow to handle difficult situations
  • Provide passive alcohol sensors for impaired driving enforcement operations
